Precipitation:

The greatest climatic differences from one region to another are of a rainfall nature.

The average rainfall over the whole of Africa is 686 mm per year, which is not much for a continent as hot (with the effects of evaporation due to heat). Because of the nature of the meteorological systems that generate rain, the rainfall regime shows a very great seasonality.

Thus, in many African regions, it may not rain at all for several consecutive months and fall in just a few months the average annual total precipitation, and this seasonal and irregular character of the rains is accentuated all the more as the region is dry.
