4.8 Resistor

Electrical resistors in an electric circuit reduce the circuit's current flow. In terms of heat or thermal energy, they purposefully lose energy. Electric heaters, electrical ovens, and toaster ovens all utilize resistors to convert electricity into heat. They then warm the space around them, utilizing the heat that escapes from the resistor. Even an incandescent light bulb's filament functions as a resistor by slowing the electrical current and heating a wire to a temperature where it emits light. Blackbody radiation is the name for this light that is emitted.
