While I continued to sift through different websites for ideal vacation spots, Dylan got up from the recliner, closed the bedroom door, and then he went into our walk-in closet. I heard him in there fumbling with his safe so I knew that he was either messing with his money or checking to see how much dope he had left. I let him do his thing while I did mine.
A few minutes later, he reappeared with three stacks of one hundred dollar bills in his hand. “Where are you going with that?” Nick gotta meet up with our connect so we can re-up.”
“What time is he coming?”
“He told me he’d be over here in the next hour or so.”
“Well, make sure you guys are discreet when y’all make the exchange.”
“Don’t worry. I’ve got that under control.”
As Dylan reached for the doorknob of the bedroom door, my father began to knock on it. Dylan opened the door. “Think you can run me up the street to the CVS pharmacy?” My father asked, looking directly at me.
“Excuse me,” Dylan said and walked slowly by my father. He didn’t want to be apart of this conversation.
“Daddy, you know I can’t leave the house. What is it that you need?” I asked him.
“You just said that you can’t leave the house. So does it even matter?” my father spat.
“If you want, I can get Dylan to go out to the store for you.” I offered, even though I knew Dylan was cringing right now.
“Never mind. I’ll somehow get it myself.” He replied and then he stormed back in the direction of the living room.
I threw my hands up as he walked away. I figured there was no possible way that I was going to appease this guy. Getting him out of here would be my best bet.
Nick showed up to the apartment not long after my father exploded on me because I wouldn’t take him to the pharmacy. Under normal circumstances, Dylan and Nick would conduct their business deals in the kitchen or the living room area of our apartment, but since my father was here, Dylan brought Nick to our bedroom and I excused myself while they did what they needed to do.
I took a cold bottle of water from the refrigerator and joined my father in the living room. He was watching an episode of Judge Mathis when I sat next to him. “What kind of man takes his friend to his bedroom where he and his girlfriend sleeps?” my father commented.
“Daddy, they’re best friends. So, I don’t mind.” I replied.
“I don’t care what they are. I never took any of my friends to my bedroom where your mother and I rested our heads.”
“Daddy, it’s a different day and age. There’s a lot of things people do now that they didn’t do years ago.”
“Just tell me what could they talk about in there that they can’t do out here?” My father pressed the issue.
“Daddy please leave it alone so we can watch TV.
