Lovely’s heart was racing a mile a minute. Her hands suddenly became clammy. Her breathing hitched. She felt faint. She thought she was on the verge of hyperventilating.

This was absurd. The things Robin said were ridiculous. No way. Lovely tried to dismiss them. However, the whole scene days ago between Abe and Robin replayed in Lovely’s mind.

“I’m very serious. You better realize who the fuck you fucking with,” Abe threatened.

“Abe, just go!”

“You see how violent he is?” Robin asked. “I’m surprised he don’t go around killing people’s parents and shit of that nature.”

“Abe, stop it! Just go, leave!”

Lovely didn’t want to believe that Robin could be telling the truth. But even she had to admit Abe’s behavior had been odd.

Then it hit Lovely like a ton of bricks; the reason Lorenzo’s voice creeped her out. It was the same raspy voice that was in her ear as she was violently raped. A voice she worked so hard to clear from her mind. There was also a familiarity to Eric’s voice that she never wanted to acknowledge. No! Even Abe—his eyes!

“Oh Jesus,” Lovely managed as she doubled over in grief. “No, no, no… No!”

Lovely tried to blink back the tears but it was inevitable. They blurred her already impaired vision even more, but it didn’t stop her from rushing through the house. She found her way downstairs where mostly everyone was.

It was Monday night. The oversized big screen displayed a football game between New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. Lovely knew this because the men had been going back and forward about the game and talking stats. The atmosphere was rambunctious as it always was on these nights. It was one of the joys of the week that Lovely looked forward to. She always loved it when her family gathered in one place. There was always a lot of love and laughter exchanged; memories made.

As she neared the sitting area of the huge man cave, Lovely tried to remember what color shirt Abe was wearing. Her mind was so rattled she couldn’t focus.

“Abe,” she called out.

“Yeah,” he said absently, not really looking in her direction.

Luciano was the first to take notice of Lovely’s distressed state. From where he was sitting, Luciano asked, “Is everything okay, Lovely?”

The concern in Luciano’s voice made everyone glance in Lovely’s direction. Abe actually did a double take. Worry etched across his face as he immediately rose from the sofa to be at her side.

Oh my God, Lovely thought. He’s coming towards me. What do I say? How should I feel? In those seconds, Lovely wasn’t sure of how she should feel. She knew she felt sick. She held her hand out to stop him from coming any closer.

Abe looked at Lovely’s outstretched arm with confusion.

“Baby, what’s wrong?”

“Robin just called me,” Lovely said calmly.

Everyone got quiet to listen to what Lovely was saying. The television still played noisily.

“What did she have to say now?” Abe asked.

“Why did you break her hand, Abe?” Lovely asked.

“She told you
