Don’t believe more in trouble

than you do in the Word.

How do you remain steadfast? Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of a particular situation, decide to think about or meditate on God’s Word. Choose to believe the promises it contains. Opt to hide the Word in your heart concerning your situation, and continue to speak what it says until there is a change.

Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” God’s Word never returns void. It always accomplishes what God has sent it forth to do.

If you quit, you won’t gain anything. Keep putting your trust in God, even if you’ve suffered a loss, a surgery is pending, or the bank is calling. You have everything to gain because the promises in the Word are true, and they’re yours to claim.

When trouble comes your way, it is not the time to let go of the Word or drop your faith. Keep believing! The only sure way to do that is to keep the Word flowing into your heart and mind. It is a simple truth. If you’re not putting the Word into your heart and mind, you’re inserting something else, possibly even a lie from the enemy. Nothing but the Word has the promise or power of God’s truth. Jesus said, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you” (John 15:7). This is the way to have your prayers answered. Abide in Him by abiding in His Word.

Faith Is Like a Muscle

Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”1 That is not a quote from the Bible, but it is a biblical principle. Every time you face a battle, your faith can get stronger.

Let me explain it this way: your faith is like a muscle. If you use it, it grows. If you don’t use it, you still have it, but it is flabby and of little use, not able to push anything big out of your path.

One way you build the muscle in your body is to lift weights or to push against a firm object. I’m no expert, but as I understand it, when you lift weights, you’re actually tearing down a muscle, and your amazing body works to repair and build it back up, bigger and better than before. That’s why trainers tell you not to lift weights every day. You must allow time for the body to do the build-up repair.

Your faith works the same way. When trouble comes along and you push against it (resist the devil) by reading, meditating on, and speaking God’s Word, your faith grows stronger and stronger, bigger and better than before. Note that you do not resist the devil by pushing against him; you resist the devil by pressing into the Word so you can use the authority given to you by God to prevail.
