If you know God’s Spirit is speaking to you, don’t hesitate to respond. And if you’re muttering, “I’ll meet his needs when he meets mine,” consider Jesus’ words: “Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). If your attitude needs changing, ask God for help. He will gladly empower you to respond differently.

2. PRACTICE ACCEPTANCE

Most women expect acceptance and love from their husbands. Ironically, many wives find it hard to give acceptance and love in turn, especially if their spouse fails to live up to their expectations. In response to their feelings of frustration, many embark on a spousal remodeling project, but they rarely succeed. No matter how hard wives try to change their husbands, few men are willing to let them succeed.

Accepting your husband’s failure to be perfectly in tune with your needs or to fully satisfy your longings isn’t easy. Nevertheless, you are called to love him regardless of his lack of awareness or sensitivity.

Your mate’s male mind, personality, or background might make him seem emotionally and verbally handicapped to you, but he is still a person worthy of love, a person who has legitimate needs that God asks a wife to meet.

Jesus demonstrated that true love is not a variable emotion but an act of the will. In light of this, what adjustment do you need to make to love and accept your humanly imperfect husband?
