In other words, a so-called friend who is always the taker and who expects you to always be the giver is no friend at all. That should be obvious, but it’s not. During my years in professional sports, I’ve seen many men get into trouble because they couldn’t tell the difference between friends and hangers-on. They had “friends” who were ready to help them spend their money on booze, drugs, and living large. But when all that wild living got them into trouble with the law or diminished their skills so they were no longer able to command those big, fat contracts, their so-called friends disappeared faster than an ice cube on an Orlando sidewalk in August!

True friends will be loyal to you and continue to love you—no matter what.
