Chapter 8
“Did everything in my power, and within my frame
To protect you from this life and keep you away from the game”
“Mrs. Martin, thanks for coming down,” said Detective Wynn. He shook Janet’s hand and showed her to the interrogation room. Inside, Detective Davis was waiting.
“Hello Mrs. Martin, please have a seat.”
Janet sat down, bracing herself for whatever bad news the detectives had to deliver. She was prepared to hear that the boys were locked up and in some sort of trouble. Kamir had been arrested several times but none of the charges ever stuck. Kash was suppose to be the good one, but Janet heard about him and his boys jacking drug dealers and doing robberies. She prayed constantly that her boys would turn their lives around but hustling was in their DNA.
“Please detectives, just tell me what the boys did and how much I need to bond them out so I can be on my way!”
“I’m sorry Janet, it’s not that simple. It seems your son Kash was seen leaving the scene of a burning building yesterday. We were looking for him so he could answer some question but,”
“But, but what? Did you find him and is he under arrest?” Janet was feeling anxious, she needed to see her sons so she would know they were alright.
“I’m sorry to inform you but a body was found last night in a ravine next to a storage facility in Manchester. I’m sorry but we believe the body is your son, Kash,” said Det.Wynn .
“Kash, no, it can’t be. I would know if my son was dead, I would feel it!” Janet became hysterical, screaming and shaking her head no. She stood up to leave, got dizzy, and passed out. Detective Wynn caught her just before she hit the floor.
Twenty minutes later, Janet came to. She was laying in a recliner in Det. Wynn’s office. He walked over and handed her a cup of water. Janet quick drank it and asked for another.
“Here you go Mrs. Martin. Are you okay?”
“Yes, what happened? The last thing I remember is you telling me.” Janet’s voice trailed off as she remembered exactly what the detective told her. She began sobbing, images of her baby flashed before her eyes. She couldn’t believe he was gone, she needed to know why.
“What happened to him? Was it an accident? Was he with Kamir, is he alright?” Janet began firing off questions so quickly, she got dizzy and passed out again. This time, Det. Wynn called for a paramedic. It was clear Janet would have a hard time digesting the news and he wanted her to be supervised just in case she tried to harm herself.
“We’ll get her statement later, right now, she needs time to process what we told her,” said Wynn.
“Yeah well, if she had a hard time digesting that, imagine how she’s going to feel when we tell her who was responsible for his death!” Stated Davis. He walked out the office and slammed the door.
