Lance

I really didn’t want to return to work, especially after the day me and Gabby spent together yesterday. I needed more days like that; too bad it came to an end.

I was working the dungeon, A Unit, today. So far things were peaceful and no one had been killed, which is always a good sign. Up on the top tier, Pooh McVay was posted up by his cell against the wall with his headphones on. When I was making my rounds earlier up there, Pooh came out of his cell as I was walking by. We were face to face for only a moment. He said what’s up to me as he stepped past me, and I kept it moving, but it was hard. Pooh killed my cousin Joe-Joe, which was something that was getting harder and harder to walk away from.

Pooh and Joe-Joe terrorized the streets of Atlanta together. RSN, which stood for Real Street Niggas, was the name of Pooh and Dirt’s gang. My cousin was their main henchmen, and he always talked highly of the McVay brothers. Joe-Joe used to come to Jonesboro to Grandma’s and chill with me when I was growing up. When I got older, I became his stash-man. Every two weeks, I met him in the A to pick up cash. Cuzo trusted me. We talked, so I knew a lot about RSN–Pooh, Dirt, Joe-Joe, T.J, and Alvin…now the RSN dynasty is destroyed.

I kept trying, but couldn’t wrap my mind around the murder. My cousin called me the he was murdered, wanting me to drop off one hundred bandz. I was to meet him at his mother’s. When I turned on auntie’s block that day, there were two police cars in front of her house, so I kept going. I returned an hour later to learn of Joe-Joe’s death. Damn!

I looked up at the killer, Pooh McVay. He was still standing against wall without a worry in the world. I didn’t know if he should be worried or not at that point. All I did know was the longer I stayed on this job, the more he should. Coming here to look in his eyes day in and day out was definitely stirring emotions I had buried along with Joe-Joe. All I could do was pray that the love I have for my wife continued to outweigh the nagging pull of the past. Should anything rock our foundation, she would have to love me more than anything to stop what I knew would follow…the street dude she thinks she craves!
