She went to the trap door and opened the cellar climbing down slowly, she lit all the lamps. He followed her down far easier. He looked around, and she saw his surprise. She walked along the shelves of cheeses. Two piles of eggs. Several large urns of frozen milk. Bowl after bowl of frozen milk pudding. Soups. Stews. Sacks of vegetables and fruit. She pointed to the cheeses, soup, stews and milk puddings. “You can take most of these, all of these,” the pointed to the eggs. “Several of these,” she pointed to the vegetable sacks. “A couple of these,” they were fruit sacks. “That stack of butter.” She told him waving at them. “And from these,” she picked up an apple, I will make pies, they are sour but with some sugar and cinnamon, they are delicious. If you leave them out they freeze, and you can heat them up again when you need them. I left one out to cool and it froze, and I heated it back up and it was good. I will make you one tonight, and you can tell me if you think they will like it and bread, I have lots and lots of flour I can make lots of bread it will freeze too and can be heated over a fire when you need it and still be good. I have a lot of milk, you can take it all for the children it is frozen too but will melt and be good.” She turned and smiled at him.
