Malcolm

Malcolm walked into the crowded gym and began searching for his brother. They tried to workout at least twice a month together to catch up on their lives and hold each other accountable to their exercise routine. Malcolm didn’t see him yet so he figured he would get a head start on him. But before he could figure out where he wanted to start, his older brother Nathan strolled in.

“Hey bro.”

Malcolm smiled. “Hey old man. You ready to get it in?”

“Who you calling old?” Nathan looked at him sternly. “I will mop the floor with you.”

Malcolm chuckled as they headed for the weight machines. They usually worked out together for the first 10 minutes to make sure they each got their weights in before they moved to other stations. Malcolm lifted his last set and slammed the weights down.

Thirty minutes after working out on the different machines, Malcolm called out to Nathan and pointed to the juice bar, indicating where he would be. As he asked for some water, a voice started talking behind him.

“You have a good workout?” the lady asked.

“I did. The weights kicked my ass,” Malcolm chuckled as he slowly turned around. “Well hello. Long time no see,” Malcolm said to Ebony. She was an old “friend”.

“It’s nice to see you too. You are looking good, Malcolm,” she observed as she looked him up and down.

“You do too.”

“Maybe one day I can come over and catch up with you.”

Malcolm took a swig of his water. He knew exactly what that meant. She wanted to catch up in the sheets. “I’m dating someone.”

Nathan started walking up to them as Ebony gave Malcolm her number anyway, expressing that he call her if he changed his mind and walked away.

Nathan leaned on the counter and asked for a water bottle. “So you’re dating someone now. She must be pretty special.” He looked for Malcolm’s reaction but Malcolm didn’t look at him.

“Shut up,” he said as he continued to drink his water while his brother laughed at him. “You done working out?”

“Yeah, I’m ready to go.” They started walking out to their respective cars when Nathan changed gears and headed to Malcolm’s car. “I forgot I wanted to come past your house and see how it’s coming along,” Nathan dictated.

Malcolm nodded. “Sure. You can just follow me over now.” They headed over to Malcolm’s. Malcolm motioned him to park on the street since the construction equipment was taking over his garage. They walked along the street with the autumn leaves falling around them as they walked up to the house. When they walked in, they saw Kalisa painting a wall. Her hair was pulled up into a high ponytail, with a t shirt and jogging pants. Malcolm thought she was so adorable. Before he realized it, he was over giving her a hug and a soft kiss on the lips. Nathan tried not to smile but his eyes said what he was thinking. Malcolm knew he wouldn’t be able to live it down.
