Sa’Naya
“Where you at?” my phone went off from a text from Kingston.
It caught me off guard, because ever since we had our walk on the beach we really had not talked.
“Home, why what’s up?” I responded.
“I’m about to come scoop you,” he quickly replied.
I wanted to ask what was wrong and why he did not ask if I was busy, instead I hopped up and threw on some clothes to make sure that I was presentable. Fifteen minutes later he called and told me he was outside, so I grabbed my purse to head out the door.
“Where you going?” Deya said scaring the shit out of me.
“Oh shucks,” I screeched. “Girl, I didn’t know you were home,” I responded holding my chest.
“Your scary ass need to listen a little better,” she laughed.
“Not funny, but I’m about to hang out with Kingston,” I replied coolly.
“Come again?” Deya choked.
“It’s nothing like that Auntie,” I started.
“Child,” she laughed. “Enjoy yourself.”
I rolled my eyes and headed out the door without responding to her. Deya was always saying little stuff about Kingston and I, and I always told her we were just friends. I think she just liked getting a rouse out of me though. Either way, I was going to hang out with him and see what he had going on.
As I jogged down the steps, Kingston got out of the car and walked towards me. He looked visibly upset like he had been crying and it alarmed me.
“What’s wrong?” I quickly asked.
“I just need a hug,” he said with his voice low and raspy.
Granted that he had not called and my feelings had been a little hurt, I complied with what he asked. I opened my arms for Kingston to step into and hugged him tight when he wrapped his arms around me. He was tense and he was not his smiling self, which made me want to eliminate whatever was bothering him.
I was not sure exactly what was wrong and what was going on, but Kingston seemed to need me and I was going to be here for him. After about five minutes of us hugging and not saying anything, Kingston released his grip on me and I did the same. He stood back to his full height, towering over me while trying to assure me he was okay with a smile.
“You okay?” I finally asked.
“Yes, I’m much better now. But I want you to go somewhere with me,” he said as he grabbed my hand.
“Where?” I asked as he dragged me to the car.
“There are some things you need to know, which affects both me and Nico. And I want to let you know because there may come a time that something happens and we can’t leave you in the blind.”
“Okay,” I replied unsure.
“Hop in the driver’s side,” he instructed me.
“What?” I gasped shocked.
Now I knew something was up, because now Kingston was allowing me to drive his baby and he did not let anyone drive his Audi.
“Yea, you driving lil nigga,” he finally broke into a real smile.
