“We gotta go,” I said to Cesar as I hung up the phone with Tamyra. I could hear that she was scared in her voice.

“What’s up man?” Cesar said, putting out the blunt we were smoking in the ash tray. Tamyra was going to kill me for smoking in her house, which is why we needed to either buy or build a new one so that I could have my own private man cave.

“That nigga Carlos is at Chili’s. Tam is about to lose her mind,” I replied.

“Say no more,” Cesar said as he pulled his .38 from his waist and checked to make sure he had a full clip.

“Nigga we can’t go shooting up Chili’s,” I laughed. “We are going to get Tam and her mom out and make sure they are okay.”

“Her mom?” Cesar asked, looking confused.

“Yeah, they recently reconnected,” I answered, giving him the short version of what was going on between the two. He already knew the situation between Tamyra and Carlos, so that went without saying much. Carlos was already on our list of niggas to hit before this shit with Tamyra. That nigga was trying to move in our territories. I guess he thought that

since we were out of the streets, we had gone soft. It was time to let him know.

“Well let’s go get this nigga. I’m calling Skitzo and Sticky since those are the only two niggas we can depend on,” he said sarcastically. I knew he was referring to Peanut’s latest fuck ups.

“Aight man,” I conceded. “Let’s go get my baby mama.”

The ride to the restaurant was silent and tension filled. I knew that Tamyra was not in any immediate danger, but just knowing that she was scared really fucked with me. I hated that Carlos had that type of control over her, but part of me felt like if she would have just gave me another chance to begin with, then she would not be in this situation. At the end of the day, we both had our faults and it was up to me to be the man she needed me to be—that was, if Cesar could get us there without killing us first. This nigga turned in the damn parking lot on two wheels.

The car did not come to a complete stop before he jumped out of it. I was still limping because of my gunshot wounds, but I was right behind him. As soon as we hit the door, we made a beeline to the bar. Carlos’ lame ass was sitting holding court with some pretty Puerto Rican chick. She looked like she wanted to be anywhere but with him, which led me to believe she was probably being paid for her time. That nigga was so lame.

“Aye my man, let me holla at you for a second,” Cesar said, quietly pressing the gun into his side discreetly so that no one could see what he was doing.

“I’m good,” Carlos said, trying to waiver him off but I was not going for that.
