Chapter 23

Chrissie

Chrissie sat on her couch. She was watching televangelism ministries. Her phone was buzzing a million times a day. All was from Leandro and two from Calvin after her morning inspiration she was going to call Calvin later. She could not bring herself to return Leandro’s calls. After meeting his wife, she wanted distance herself from Leandro and his lies. Several weeks after losing the baby, she felt hurt. Chrissie and Leandro did not belong together. She was wrong for continuing a relationship with Leandro after marrying Estelle and now she was paying the penalty. She rolled over to fall asleep.

Chrissie was wakening from her sleep from a sound in her kitchen. She rushed to her feet and grabbed her aluminum slugger from under her couch. She rests it on her shoulders ready to swing on the intruder. Inching into her kitchen, she was the foot inside the fridge door.

She recognized those socks from anywhere. She inched up to fridge and pushed the door causing the door to close in on the trespasser.

“Get out,” Chrissie swung the slugger. “I called the police.”

“Babe it’s me,” Leandro appeared from around the counter. “You haven’t been answering your phone so I came over to check on you. You were sleep so I helped myself to a sandwich.”

“I haven’t been answering my phone for a reason. I thought I had your set of keys?”

“I made more. What is the matter? If you need a new phone, let me know. You could have used the black card.”

“It’s you I was avoiding,” Chrissie confessed. “I don’t want you here Leandro.”

“Gimme that.” Leandro walked over to her taking the bat out of her hand. “Are you tired of me?”

“I’m done Leandro. I’m sick of all your lies and deceptions.”

“Lies,” Leandro frowned. “Chrissie talk to me.”

Leandro walked over to Chrissie grabbing her by her hand. She was angry. She was tired of talking. Leandro was determined to get back in her good graces.

“I had a miscarriage.”

“What,” Leandro dropped her hand and placed his face in his palms.

“So now that our love child has died we can move on with our lives. I’m done with being second in your life.”

“Chrissie, I love you. Stop talking like that. Estelle means nothing to me and you know that. Don’t let her ruin what we have.”

“What we had was a false hope. Go home to your wife and children because if she comes to my house unannounced there won’t be any warnings.”

“Chrissie what’s your problem?” Leandro pulled her closer. “I need you in my life.”

Chrissie tried to fight back her tears. She and Leandro never argued but she also thought he would never lie to her. There was a first for everything. She wanted to fight him off. She wanted to believe him. He was so charming but they could never be where they used to be.

“Leave Leandro,” Chrissie cried. Leandro planted kisses on her lips.

“I’m sorry I hurt you. Chrissie, I am sorry the lost. You have to listen to me.
