I walked into Monie’s room to see Denver and Sunny lying in the bed with Monie. They were speaking to her, but she wasn’t responding to anything they asked or spoke about.

“Can I talk to her?” I asked, surprising them. They didn’t even notice me enter the room.

“Yea, we’re going to go, anyway. Sunny is sick,” Denver said, getting off the bed.

“Love you, sister. I will see you tomorrow.” Sunny said, kissing Monie on the cheek, and Denver did the same.

Sunny hugged me before walking out of the room, and Denver pulled me into the hallway.

“She’s not talking, Gun. Please, try to get something out of her,” Denver pleaded.

“I will. Don’t worry. I love Monie, and I’m going to help her through it.” I assured her. I kissed her on the jaw and walked back into the room. I walked back in and laid down in the bed, with Monie wrapping my arms around her and me pulling her close. For minutes, we said nothing. I just held her in my arms, then I heard sniffing.

“Emmonie?” I said.

“Yea.” she said, turning around facing me.

“I’m so sorry I didn’t protect you. I never ever wanted anything like this to happen to you. Monie, I swear I love you, man, and I want to be a part of your healing process. Fuck it. I want to be a part of your life,” I said, looking into her eyes, as tears streamed down her beautiful cheeks.

“Gun, how can you be with me? I’m a dope fiend, and I’m damaged, all because I trusted a snake. How can you love me? I don’t even love me.” She cried into my chest. I held her tighter finding the exact words I wanted to say to her.

“Emmonie, I don’t care about any of that. You’re a dope fiend. Okay, let’s kick that shit together. Cold turkey. You damaged baby, but so is everyone in the world. Nobody is perfect. Everybody’s been through something and everyone needs somebody. You’re my somebody, and I’m your somebody.” I said, stroking her hair.

“But, what if I can’t give you a baby?” She asked, crying harder.

“Then, we will adopt, Monie. Having my baby won’t make me love you more or less, and it, damn sure, won’t make me leave you. Monie, you’re going to be my wife, and we are in this together. It may not be easy, but as long as we are committed, we will be okay. We gotta pray together, uplift each other, and overcome things just like this.” I told her.

“Thank you, Ramel. I love you, too.”

“Now I’m Ramel, since I confessed my love, huh,” I laughed, causing her to giggle.

“I fell in love with Ramel. I love Gun, too.” She giggled, pulling me tighter.

“Whatever you wanna call me, I’m good with. Now, get some sleep.” I said, closing my eyes. I meant every word that I said to her. I truly loved Emmonie, and as soon as I helped her back to her normal self, I was going to make her my wife.
