A voice called from the middle of the quickly shrinking second pile, “I’m not going anywhere!”

A man popped out near the top of the same pile. “This is a perfectly good pile. Even if it is a smaller pile, it might be the better pile. It’s certainly the safer pile.”

After his little speech, several people left the first pile to join the second pile.

The talking and the switching of places continued and became a great commotion. Some people were angry, others confused. The kids were especially confused. The adults had taken over. But they didn’t seem to be in control of anything at all.

And then the child holding the ball shouted, “Stop!”
