There are several important characteristics of the calibration curve in Figure 7.4. First, the set of data points actually curves. This is not a problem as long as the response changes continuously as the concentration increases. However, when the response flattens out, the increased concentrations of analyte do not give differing results. This phenomenon is called saturation and is illustrated in Figure 7.7. In the example, saturation of the colorimeter response has occurred at phosphate concentrations of 2.0 mg/L and higher.
