CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Megan was propped up on a mountain of pillows. She was seriously beginning to chafe at this forced convalesce. It was the third day since she was shot in the square and despite the fact that her legs worked just fine, Reijo hadn’t allowed her to move from the bed. If that man tried to put her back to bed one more time she was going to beat the crap out of him.

Finally, Megan’s watch dog servant left her bedroom after she informed him that she was tired. Almost as soon as the door clicked shut Megan was up and putting on real clothes. The wound on her shoulder was sore and pulled a little as she leaned down to lace up the boots she was putting on, but it wasn’t so bad as to hinder her. The medical technology of this planet was remarkable. What would have taken weeks if not a couple of months of healing on Earth had only taken a little over a day of treatments here.

Once dressed Megan slipped out of her bedroom and away from the guard dogs stationed in the hallway; being tiny compared to these Vukasins had its advantages.

As she neared Reijo’s study she could hear raised voices. She heard her name in the conversation and Megan saw red. She was so tired of these arrogant males thinking that they could dictate her life.

The doors of the study crashed open as Megan stalked through. Reijo turned, scowling at the interruption until he saw it was Megan. His gaze softened and he opened him mouth to speak. Most likely to spout some nonsense about how her fragile little self needed to be wrapped up like a porcelain doll.

Megan raised her hand, “Stuff it, Reijo.”

The projected image of Ghaleb smiled, “It seems reports of your near death experience were greatly exaggerated.”

Megan propped a hand on her hip and glared, “I got shot, Ghaleb. And considering that I have spent most of my time confined to various houses, I’m willing to bet it wasn’t because someone had a personal beef with me. So tell me, your majesty, what shit have you plopped me in the middle of?”
