Water to Wine

Peter was present for Jesus’ very first miracle, when He turned water into wine (John 2). Jesus, His mother and His disciples had all been invited to a wedding party. During the party, the wine ran out, which could have been a great embarrassment for the groom. Jesus told the servants to fill six water pots full of water, which He later turned into wine. While the servants were told what to do and also witnessed the miracle, the bridegroom was unaware of what had happened at his own party. Jesus did a miracle behind the scenes on his behalf as he simply followed his heart to covenant with the woman he was promised to. The best thing the groom did besides follow his heart was to invite Jesus to the party.

I love this story, because I believe God wants to make a massive shift in our generation from what is embedded in this narrative. We can remain servants of the Lord, wait around to hear His audible voice and then do exactly what He says. This is good, and it allowed these servants to partner with Jesus and actually see the miracle. But I feel that God is leading our generation into a new level of relationship with Jesus. God wants us to follow our hearts and invite Jesus to the party. He wants friendship and partnership with us and to co-labor with us. He is waiting for us to follow our hearts because He wants to surprise us, bless us and back us up in incredible ways, just like He did for Peter walking on water.
