WHAT GOD DOES

Sometimes God asks us to go around the world to share the gospel. Sometimes He sends the world to us. Sometimes He asks us to go down the street. And sometimes He wants our steps to set the foundation for someone coming behind us, following our footsteps, and then venturing out on her own. Someone with beautiful feet, bringing the good news of Christ with every step she takes.

I’m not sure about you, but tears fill my eyes as I read Leslie’s and Semi’s stories. One thing Leslie didn’t mention is that Semi grew up in a Muslim community, and when he came into our home he related to Islam. How beautiful that the gospel can be shared through an eloquent sermon in a cathedral or a hamburger wrapper and a mustard bottle in a fast-food restaurant. I love how God used a new believer to help a young woman move across the world to spread the gospel!

After finishing her year in the Czech Republic, Leslie returned home, but she soon felt God lead her to return there as a career missionary. She’s lived there four years now and serves in the local church and volunteers in numerous ministries. She’s also recently become a professor at a university. Yes, my young daughter now serves other young people in an official capacity, and the friendships she builds are opening doors and fostering relationships. Not only that, but Leslie met and married a wonderful Christian Czech man. She’s committed to spending her life there, spreading the love and light of Jesus.

Every time my daughter leads someone to Christ, walks someone through baptism, or shares the good news of Jesus with someone who’s never heard it before, I feel as if it’s part of my story too. Leslie’s story grew out of mine, and when Semi dared to listen to God’s voice and sent that donation to Leslie, he joined the story too. It’s as if my tears softened the soil and she’s plowed it, making it her life’s work. And I can’t wait to discover what God does in and through my other children’s lives, things I see Him already starting.

God invites anyone with a listening heart to join His ongoing story. I know this to be true.

God moved my heart and caused me to fall in love with the people of the Czech Republic, knowing that my daughter would someday live there.

God stirred me to lead a mission trip to the Czech Republic, knowing that on that trip Leslie would glimpse what serving in that country full time would be like.

What I saw in part, God saw in whole. If I hadn’t taken that first step, I never would have known what God would do. I would have missed the adventure, and Leslie might have missed all God has led her into since then.

So, dear friend, pay attention when God breaks your heart. He’s inviting you to join Him in prayer and action. Be aware of the people He brings into your life.
