The Mad River dashes through Warren. (Photograph 1998)

Walk north along Main Street for 200 feet to a tiny park opposite Fuller Hill Road where a plaque says “Welcome to Warren Village.” The GPS reading here is 44°06.718’N 72°51.382’W. From this spot, you can look down into the gorge and obtain lateral views of the crib dam, cascades, and a private home on the opposite side of the gorge, which even has its own powerhouse.

ADDITIONAL CASCADE: Freeman Brook Falls and gorge is located next to the Warren Store, a converted farmhouse. From Warren (junction of VT 100 and the north end of Main Street), drive southeast on Main Street for 0.2 mile to the village proper, and park next to the Warren (General) Store. From the south side of the store, follow a stairway down for 30 feet to the bottom of the 0.05-mile-long Freeman Brook Gorge and tiny cascade (DeLorme, p. 40, I1; GPS 44°06.866’N 72°51.350’W).

Access to the stream and cascade was made possible through the Friends of the Mad River.
