Dan Sullivan: From an industry transformation perspective, why is your process such a valuable solution for the accounting industry?
Debra Schatzki: It's a powerful solution for a variety of reasons. First, clients don't always pay in a timely fashion, but when you offer greater value and more service, they become better payers. I can't tell you how many times accountants have told me how much easier it is collecting fees from clients because of the work we did on the financial services side. Second, accounting firms are always looking to increase revenues, and a properly run financial services division can provide an enormous addition to the bottom line. Finally, liability is a major concern for accounting firms, and producing detailed financial plans can go a long way toward reducing a firm's exposure.
Dan Sullivan: I suspect, Debra, that even though the time available for your own business has been drastically reduced, your personal production keeps growing because of the increased opportunities.
Debra Schatzki: That's definitely true, Dan. This year I probably worked two months in total on my own business. Yet I did 25 percent more in life production and investment this year than last, and I did more fee business.
Dan Sullivan: And you're not wondering where the business is going to come from two or three years down the road.
Debra Schatzki: That's right. I actually am more excited than ever because we now have 18 professionals in Weiser's New York office, three in the Long Island office, and we're starting up our New Jersey practice. What's incredible to me is that so many of the financial services people who have contacted me can clearly see the possibilities of doing business a new way, despite having been part of an older way of doing business for so long, and they can't wait to get involved. Everyone on my team had record production last year.
Dan Sullivan: Looking ahead five years, Debra, where do you see the scope of FSIB? Can you see a thousand firms across the country doing this?
Debra Schatzki: Yes, I actually can.
