Rexâs deep brown eyes flicked up to meet his, and he jerked his arm and nodded at the hibachi. âThe fish will burn.â
âI donât care. I always burn everything I cook anyway.â Why did I decide to make dinner again? But he shoved the filets to the edge of the grill, away from the coals so a fire wouldnât distract them. A five oâclock shadow darkened Rexâs tight jaw line, framing his full lips and the errant lock of hair fell over his eyes. âWeâve been friends too long to be dishonest with one another. Who did you expect to find here tonight? A woman?â
Rex shook his head. âNo.â
âThen who?â
âYou.â He pulled away and strode to the balcony railing, staring over the lagoon. âI knew it would be you.â
Paul wouldnât let him get away that easily. He came up behind him and rested a hand on the rail on either side of him. âThen why didnât you say so when I showed up?â
Rex leaned on the rail, but Paul leaned too, his hips pressing into the firm ass in front of him.
âI didnât say so because you looked so surprised to see me.â He spun around. âWho did you expect?â
Paul cupped his chin, savoring the rough stubble against his palm. âI expected someone to help me get you out of my thoughts.â
A soft smile lit Rexâs face. âI was in your thoughts?â
âLong time now.â He stroked the whiskered cheek as the last of the daylight faded around them. Unwilling to wait any longer, unable to think of anything funny to lighten the mood, he followed his heart and did the smart thing, for once. With an arm around Rexâs waist, Paul yanked him closer, fearing and liking the erection bumping his. He gave his best friend the kind of kiss that held nothing back. Urging Rexâs lips open, he followed with his tongue, exploring, stroking, encouraged when they twined. Their hips ground together, and he dropped a hand to touch Rexâs cock, rubbing it through his shorts, breath coming in short pants.
Now that it had begun, Paul wanted to hurry, to make a connection they would never forget. He still didnât know how it would go. Lust surged through him, tightening his balls, but when they got down to it, how would he react to another man â¦sucking, fucking? In a panic, he yanked free, shuddering, and stared at his friend.
They both looked away. Not good. Paul struggled to think of a joke, something to lighten the mood, then realized he didnât want to. He wanted to blow on the flame theyâd lit, keep it burning, because there wouldnât be another chance. Rexâs heaving chest and trembling, muscled thighs turned him on more than anything heâd ever experienced. But they were still clothed, and he feared what might happen when the swordplay began.
âLetâs go inside.â Rex headed for the patio doors and he followed, driven on by lust and affection. Whatever happened, nothing would ever be the same between them and that fear nearly overwhelmed the desireâbut they couldnât go back.
