CHAPTER TEN

After the incident at Lauren’s house Krisette became withdrawn and depressed. She stayed locked up in her room all day and night. Some of her friends from school were calling, but she wouldn’t talk to anyone, including her mother. Diane tried her best to comfort her daughter, but there was nothing she could do or say that would ease the pain or humiliation she felt.

“Krisette, I made you some crab soup!” Diane yelled from the bottom of the stairs. Diane knew how much she loved her crab soup and was hoping she loved it enough to get her out of her room.

When Krisette didn’t answered Diane decided to go check on her. “Krisette,” Diane said as she gently knocked on the door and still received no response.

“Krisette,” she said in a nervous tone as she slowly opened the door to her daughter’s bedroom.

“Oh my God, Krisette,” Diane screamed after finding her daughter laying unconscious next to her bed with both her wrists slit. She checked for a pulse and it was weak, but present. She ran to the phone and dialed 911 as she returned to her daughter’s side.

“Please God, don’t take by baby!”

“911, what is the state of your emergency?” asked the 911 operator in a calm voice.

“Please help me, I just found my daughter unconscious with both her wrists slit. She has a pulse, but it is very weak.”

“What is your location?’

“4552 Lovestream Ct.”

“Okay, try to remain calm, help is on the way, in the meantime apply pressure to your daughter’s wrists until the ambulance arrives. That will help slow down the bleeding,” said the 911operator.

Minutes later the ambulance arrived and rushed Krisette to the nearest hospital.

While Krisette was being cared for by the doctors and nurses Diane made a call to Dr. Stevenson who had been working with Krisette since she was five years old. He was shocked to hear of Krisette’s suicide attempt because she had been so happy after receiving the hormone therapy two years ago. He agreed it would be best for her to talk to someone familiar rather than a total stranger who might not have experience with transgender children.

“Mrs. Michaels, you may see you daughter now. She is all stitched up and a little groggy from the pain meds, but physically she will be fine. I would like her to stay a couple of days for observation and have her talk to our psychiatrist. She is very lucky, you found her just in time,” stated the doctor.

“Thank you so much doctor, but I already called her therapist and he is on the way,” Diane said with her hand extended.

Diane quietly entered the room trying not to wake Krisette from what looked like a peaceful sleep, but suddenly she cried out and tears poured from her eyes.

“Sweetheart, mommy is right here,” Diane said as she stoked her daughter’s curly locks.

Krisette slowly opened her eyes and wept even harder when she saw her mother’s face. Diane wiped her tears away and kissed her gently on the forehead.
