Logan

Keily was a savvy woman. He’d come to realize that over the last few weeks, ever since that moment they’d almost kissed. At one time in his life, he’d have given anything to get a kiss from a woman like Keily, yet he’d stopped himself that day. He was angry with himself for letting his control slip, he’d taken it out on her but she was a trooper.

Savvy as he’d thought a moment ago, he reminded himself. Most women would have quit after that encounter. He’d deliberately picked his words and his actions. He’d been careful to provoke outrage, maybe even tears. Instead, she’d steeled her backbone, met his every glance, and didn’t back down. Smart, sexy, brave. She was all of those things as well.

She was in a new outfit today, a black pencil skirt with a floral blouse that suited the cold temperature he kept the office at. He preferred cooler temperatures, and the light sweater she wore over her blouse, a pale blue shade that highlighted the almost clear quality of her eyes, attested to how much she didn’t like the cold.

He’d noted that with each new paycheck she added to her wardrobe, one piece or another that would still have that new clothing smell when she walked in wearing it. A skirt, a top, new shoes. He especially liked the black stilettos she’d invested in. They did incredible things for her calves and he liked to watch her walk around the office in them.

He closed the email he’d received a few moments ago and leaned over a little to watch as she walked around the office. Keily was not who she said she was, not at all, but he loved looking at those legs of hers.

“Keily?” He called out as she neared his open door and smiled when she leaned in with an arched eyebrow.

“Yes, Logan?” Her curious eyes took him in without a hint of anything to give away her thoughts. She’d become cold to him, unflinching and distant, but she did her job well, now that she’d caught on to what was necessary. He’d taken it easy on her for the last couple of weeks, even stopped organizing emails to go out in the middle of the night.

Since that almost-kiss four weeks ago, it just seemed petty. Keily had proven herself capable of learning fast, thinking quickly on her feet, and getting the job done.

An idea had occurred to him, and he knew it was probably a bad idea, but couldn’t stop himself now that he’d called her in.

“There’s a company dinner tonight, I need you to accompany me.” He sat at his desk and looked up at her with guileless brown eyes. He didn’t give away the slightest hint that anything was wrong or that he’d just had it confirmed that she didn’t have a degree of any kind.

“Of course, where and what time?” She didn’t even blink those incredible gray eyes or question him; she just did as she was told. That thrilled him on a deeper, private level that he didn’t want to admit to.
