Marcus didn’t like any of this, and he liked it even less when they reached Cam’s house and saw the people gathered there. It wasn’t just Cam. Bryson and Lennox were there, too, and Cam asked them to be present only when he needed muscle. Unless he was going to ask them to beat up Doyle, it meant they were leaving pack territory, and there was no way Marcus would let Doyle out of his sight.

He understood why Doyle was going along with this. He still felt guilty about what he’d done to Everly, and, as he’d explained, he was trying to atone for it. It made sense for Cam to take advantage of it, but it didn’t mean Marcus had to like it. It also didn’t mean he had to let Doyle go along with it. Doyle was his own person, and Marcus couldn’t do anything beyond trying to keep him back and talk to him, but he’d do it anyway. And if it didn’t work, well, he’d go with them. At this point, he didn’t care if he had to tell everyone Doyle was his mate. He wasn’t letting him out of his sight, and that was that.

“Doyle,” Cam said with a smile. “We were waiting for you.”

Doyle looked at his feet. “I’ll do whatever you need me to do.”

“Thank you.” Cam turned to Marcus. “We’re leaving pack territory, so you can go home and get some rest. I’m not sure when we’ll be back, but it should be later today or during the night. Take the rest of the day off, and you’ll see Doyle tomorrow.”

Marcus crossed his arms over his chest. “Where are you taking him?”

“Wakefield. The Wakefield pack has more members, and we’re hoping that a few of them can help us. They have a hacker, and while Everly is good with computers, that’s not exactly what he does. We want to talk to this guy and see what he can find out about Donald. Besides, I’d like Doyle to talk to Donald, and that’s where he is.”

The Rosewood pack was small, and they’d never needed a jail. The fact that the Wakefield pack had cells had made Marcus wonder what they were using them for, and he supposed he had his answer now. He’d known Donald was with them, and he couldn’t help but wonder how long it would last. He wouldn’t be surprised if the Wakefield pack decided to execute Donald. They should hand him over to the human justice system, but the humans would let him go free. They didn’t care much what happened to shifters, especially when the person who hurt them was human. That meant packs usually took things into their own hands and that sometimes, humans disappeared.

Marcus wouldn’t mind if Donald were to disappear after what he’d done to Doyle.

Marcus looked at Doyle. He wanted to ask him if it would be okay with him if Marcus came along, but he couldn’t do that without drawing attention.
