Sebastian had no idea what was happening, but when Caven rushed out of the room, he scrambled to his feet to follow. He snatched a roll of bread from his plate as he did so just in case Caven was hungry. They could go to the kitchen to get something to eat anytime they wanted, but Sebastian was still intimidated by the clan and the dragons who lived here. He was more comfortable spending time with Caven in their rooms, and the less they left it, the better he felt.

He hadn’t told Caven that. Instead, he’d told him that he wanted them to stay in because it was better for Caven’s health, considering he was pregnant. It was probably ridiculous, but Sebastian did feel like what was happening to Caven’s body was a miracle, one he’d never expected to experience.

He’d never thought he’d have kids. It wasn’t because he was gay, but rather because he couldn’t imagine himself in a stable relationship and with children. He still couldn’t many days, but he supposed it would happen once the baby was born.

Someone stepped in his path, making him stumble. He looked up to find a gray dragon in their human form staring at him. He gave them a tight smile, then tried to walk around them, but they sidestep him, blocking him again.

“How can you be with him?” they demanded to know.

Sebastian swallowed. He reminded himself that no one would hurt him, no matter what they said. The queen had promised, and he believed her. If someone did try to do something to him, she’d punish them.

“I’m sorry, I have something to do.”

“Yeah, with that asshole. How can you be okay with what he did?”

Sebastian raised his hands. “I have no idea what he did, but it doesn’t change the fact that he and I are having a child.”

The dragon’s eyes narrowed. “He had Sheldon and Blake attacked when they first arrived. He tried to push his cousin off the throne to take her place. When Cain ran away from his clan because they wanted to take his baby, Caven kidnapped him and was about to give him back. He would have if he hadn’t been arrested.”

Sebastian felt faint. He couldn’t look away from the dragon, but his brain wasn’t connecting. He’d heard the words, and knew what they meant, but he couldn’t fit the image the dragon had created of Caven with what he knew of the dragon he was falling in love with.

Had Caven really done those things?

The dragon leaned closer. “He’s rotten to the core, and that will never change. It doesn’t matter that he let a human impregnate him. It doesn’t change who he is.”

“That’s enough,” a strong voice snapped.

The dragon startled and jumped away from Sebastian. Sebastian was grateful, but before he could take advantage of the opportunity and run away, a hand clasped his shoulder.

“Leave Sebastian alone,” the voice added.

Sebastian was pretty sure he recognized it as Morven’s, and he was relieved to see he was right when he turned his head to find the green dragon standing behind him.
