EIGHTEEN

TRIGG

After they made love, Trigg and Stormy laid together, holding each other for some time. Trigg felt like he had fallen into a fairy tale, rather than some mission he had to achieve to gain his freedom.

There was a part of him that wondered, the paranoid part of him, if it was some kind of test. He had to get her out of the country safely. That was a given. But what if the general found out about her being his fated mate? What if that would take away any idea of freedom?

Trigg wanted to be there with Stormy at this moment, but his mind kept wandering to the concept of this being a trap or of the chance his being with her would remove the freedom he had so desperately longed for.

Stormy was lying on his chest, dozing away in the early morning light. He could catch her scent from where his head lay, delicious lavender and cinnamon.

“That was lovely,” Stormy whispered.

Trigg smiled, loving the low husky sound of her voice.

“It’s certainly a new addition to this bed and breakfast,” Trigg remarked.

Stormy giggled against him. It moved through Trigg like a pleasant low rumble.

Trigg could feel his injuries sting as he laughed back. He cringed slightly, and Stormy sat up.

“Are you okay?” Stormy asked with a great look of concern.

Trigg moved the blankets they had spread on the floor in front of the fireplace, glancing at his side wounds. There were some streaks from the blood dribbled against the fabric.

“Oh no,” she remarked, covering her mouth. “Did I hurt you?”

Trigg touched his sides, feeling the pressure of his fingers, then smiled at her.

“Oh, you did quite the opposite, my dear,” he said.

Trigg moved the cover over him, then touched Stormy’s cheek. She touched his hand and leaned into him.

“Do you normally take a long time to heal?” she asked.

Trigg sighed. He was still unsure about how much of the truth he was going to reveal to Stormy, but as his feelings grew for her, his trust grew even stronger.

“It’s not normally this long, no,” he replied. “I think it was because of the poison.”

Stormy nodded. She laid back down next to him, staying on her stomach. She traced her fingers along his body, ending at the wound near his collarbone.

“You know, I’ve never met a shifter before,” she said.

“No?” Trigg replied.

Stormy gave him a nod, moving her finger in a circle over his bandage.

“I know about them, of course, as does everyone,” she said. “But if you told me I was going to go to Ukraine and would sleep with one, I’d have said you were nuts.”

Trigg let out a loud guffaw. It made his chest hurt slightly, and he started coughing. Stormy sat up, and he waved her away.

“I’m okay, trust me,” he said through his jag of coughs.

Stormy raised an eyebrow.

“I don’t think I trust you in that way yet,” she said.

Stormy climbed to her feet and went into the bathroom. Trigg heard the sound of running water, then she returned with a cup.
