The trash heap snatched up a fence, and a wagon, and a chimney, and swallowed them all in one gulp.

The villagers panicked. They ran this way and that way and that way and this way, all desperate to get away from the trash heap that looked like it would eat anything in its path.

“Save yourselves!” yelled Boris.

“Run for your lives!” said the mayor.

Vampyra, Wolfy, Franky, Fern, and the Little Junior Monster Scouts stopped running.

Wolfy knelt down next to Fern and the cubs.

“Little Junior Monster Scouts, what’s the first scout motto?”

Fern cleared her throat, and she and the rest of the cubs said, “By paw or claw, by tooth or wing, Junior Monster Scouts can do anything.”

“That’s right, cubs,” said Vampyra. “And we have to stop that trash heap.”

Franky scratched his bolts. He did that when he was thinking of an idea. He thought about what the trash pile wanted. He thought about something the villagers did not want. He scratched his bolts again.

“I think I have a plan,” he said.
