SUMMARY OF REGIONAL SURVEY RESULTS

In the farm survey, the majority of farmers interviewed (37 of 40) cultivate their own farm land, and 28 farmers rent some additional land for their activities. The average area owned by a farm is 74.96 hectares, but half of the respondents have less than 48.5 hectares. The average rented area was 78 hectares, but half of the farmers rented less than 18 hectares. On average, farmers in the sample cultivated 125.8 hectares.

Concerning the age of the farm holder, three farmers represent the lowest age category, which approximately equals the Hungarian average. Middleaged farmers are also well represented in the sample. Half of the interviewees above 45 (24 farmers) had already identified a successor while 42 per cent do not yet have a successor, but would like to appoint one in future.

Most of the farmers attained secondary or tertiary education (both 32.5 per cent). Additionally one-fifth graduated from a university, whereas 10 per cent finished only primary school. The spouses of farm holders generally have lower educational levels.
