I didn’t think this through.

The reality of the situation smacks me in the face like a wrecking ball.

Paisley. Sunshine. Lake.

Oh God.

The life-ruining succubus is already knee-deep in the water, her long legs glistening in the sunshine. I can still hear James talking but I’m too busy eating up the view. Damn I wish she didn’t grow up to be so bloody fine. She always was a pretty thing, even back when she was just starting to grow into her teeth and her mum still chose her haircut.

But now…

Now grown-up Paisley is all smooth skin and curves for days. To look at, she’s the ideal woman, and has a smile that makes men everywhere wish they had her in their bed.

Most of them already have.

And yep, that does it. My thoughts instantly darken.

Damn that girl. And double damn my brain.

“Hey, get lost on the way did ya?” One of Paisley’s friends appears in front of me. She’s kind of cute in an understated way.

“Uh…” Crap, I don’t remember her name.

Her lip twitches. “Zara.”

“I knew that, I just…”

“Yeah, yeah. You coming in the water?”

I nod my head in distraction, failing to notice Zara’s eyes tracking mine until she says, “Huh.”

“Huh, what?” I ask, trying to keep focus. The smirk on Zara’s face says it all as she follows my gaze to Paisley. “Hell no!” I deny.

“I never did understand why you were so bent out of shape about her. Now it makes more sense.”

“Whatever you’re thinking right now, that’s not it.”

“Uh huh.” She turns her back to me and runs towards the lake. “Last one in the water buys the shots tonight!”

With Jake, Matt, Xander, Kobi and Paisley already in the water, James and Naomi take off after Zara and I’m left standing here with a blank-faced Chase. A weirdly tense moment passes between us but I have no idea what this guy’s problem is. He’s always looking at me like he wants to chew my face off. I don’t think I’ve ever even said more than two words to him. I don’t really care when people are pissed off at me, but I do prefer to know the reasons why. He’s been here all afternoon, lounging around in just his shorts, making all the girls stare at him. I hate guys like that. He isn’t the only person who works out. The rest of us just have class and don’t have to show it off for everyone.

“Are you not going in?” He asks, with his eyes fixed on the lake.

“Eventually.” I really can’t figure this guy out. “But you don’t look like you’re going anywhere fast. I’m good where I am for now.”

He makes a humming sound in the back of his throat, but keeps looking at me out the corner of his eye. I know he’s staring, and I’m guessing he knows I’m doing it right back. We’re apparently having a metaphorical pissing contest and I want to win. I don’t even know why I want to win so bad, but I do.
