WHEN TOMAZ INVITED her to stay at his ranch, he hadn’t factored into the equation about what it would feel like to be sitting across from Bianca at the breakfast table.

While he’d been cooking frittatas—breakfast was the extent of his culinary skills—she’d been getting dressed. When she strolled into the kitchen fully dressed, he felt out of place in a bathrobe and slippers.

It seemed she had grown even more beautiful overnight. Her hair pulled up in a lovely twist, her delicate features utterly patrician. She wore very little makeup, and her clothes were as conservative as the business attire she’d worn the day before, but that only seemed to enhance her sexual allure. Looking professional and put together, she had the advantage.

It’s not a competition, he reminded himself, but if it was, she’d win.

“You made breakfast?” she asked.

“Surprised?”

“Yes. I thought I’d just grab a piece of fruit before we got down to work.” As she studied him in his bathrobe.

He felt totally naked and reached to tighten the belt at his waist. He slanted her a beguiling grin, and when he coaxed a soft smile from her lips, he felt as if his account had just called to tell him his company stocks had doubled in value. “We have time for a proper breakfast.”

“Would you have made frittatas if I hadn’t been staying over?” she asked.

“Ahh,” he said. “But you stayed over, and I do my best to make my guests feel welcomed.”

She studied the frittata he’d taken from the oven. “You outdid yourself, Tomaz.”

The sound of his name sliding off her tongue tuned up Tomaz’s libido, and he found his mind skipping to thoughts he should not be having about Bianca. Maybe offering her to stay on his ranch was a bad idea. “Don’t be too impressed. It’s the only thing I know how to cook.”

“I bet it’s delicious.”

“Did you sleep well?” He cut the frittata into two pieces and slid each half onto two separate plates.

“I was a little restless in a strange place,” she admitted. “It took me quite a while to fall asleep.”

Me too.

He opened the refrigerator, took out a fruit salad his chef had made the day before and added half cup to each plate.

“Was the mattress uncomfortable?” he asked, handing her one plate and taking the other for himself. He moved toward the table.

She followed him, and they took seats at opposite ends. The morning sun slanted through the open blinds, casting her face in a golden glow. Her beauty took his breath away.

“No, no, the mattress was very comfy,” she said.

“Was the temperature too hot?”

Her cheeks colored, and he wondered that was about.

“It was the right temperature,” she said. “I was just having a little trouble slowing down my mind.”

“Have you ever tried meditation?” he asked.

“Yes,” she said. “But my mind moves too fast.”

He chuckled.

“What?” She frowned.

Had he touched a nerve? “That’s like saying you’re too dirty for a shower.”

Her scowl deepened. “I suppose you’re a master meditator.”

“I wouldn’t say I was a master, but I have meditated for many years.
