Chapter Six

Ray was a mass of nerves as he checked the clock for the umpteenth time. She’d arrive any minute now. He wanted everything to be perfect.

He had uncorked the white wine, and decided to keep the red out just in case that’s what Kendra preferred. And in his fridge was a four-pack of vodka coolers, a six of imported beer, and a couple of bottles of different sodas, just so all his bases were covered.

Into the living room he carried a tray on which sat a bottle of white wine on ice, two crystal flutes, a plate with cheese, crackers, green grapes, some pretty napkins, and a tiny box of very expensive handmade chocolates. He set it on the coffee table, then reached into his pocket for a book of matches and proceeded to light the large candle on the coffee table, then several smaller candles on the mantle of his fireplace.

Even though it was a warm night, he had the fireplace on for the ambiance and the added illumination when he turned off the overhead light. He turned on a lamp by the sofa, and judging the atmosphere to be appropriately romantic, went over to his sound system to pick some music.

Soon the seductive strains of Mediterranean guitar filled the room, and he knew he’d done all he could.

The doorbell chimed and his heart skipped a beat. She was here.

As he moved across the room, he smoothed down his hair and straightened his shirt, then opened the door and almost lost his power of speech. She looked like a dream standing on his doorstep.

“Hi Ray,” she said, giving him a hundred Watt smile.

“Hi—” His voice caught and he had to clear his throat. “Hi. You look amazing.”

“Thanks.”

His eyes locked on hers and they just stared. For Ray, time just stood still and everything around him faded away until there was nothing left but this beautiful woman standing in front of him.

“May I come in?” she asked, a trace of teasing laughter in her voice.

Ray felt his cheeks flush and stepped back. “Of course. Yes.”

She moved past him, her scent wafting up and making him almost dizzy with want.

“Your place is really cute,” Kendra said, hovering on the threshold of the living room.

“I like it,” said Ray, then mentally chastised himself for his less than interesting rejoinder. All he wanted to do was just grab her, rip off her clothes and thrust his already throbbing cock deep into her warm, wet depths.

She wandered over to the fireplace and looked down at the flickering flames. “I just love a fireplace, don’t you?” she said. “It’s so romantic.”

“I know it’s kind of crazy to have it on tonight, but I just thought that maybe you’d like...er...yeah, I think it’s romantic too.” Ray wanted to kick himself. Why was he fumbling so badly at this?

Kendra turned and smiled at him, making his pulse race and his throat close once more. “I think it’s lovely.”

They gazed at each other a long moment before Ray snapped out of his trance and turned to the open bottle of wine.
