Chapter 10
Apollo
I didn’t want to decline when Rome invited me to meet up with the Youngbloods, but I also didn’t want Larisa to think I was trying to weasel my way into her life. When I first met Rome, I had no idea that he was the cocreator of the Youngbloods along with Larisa. Now that I knew, I was careful of when I linked up with him.
Me and Larisa had been at this for a month now, and things were going really good, so I didn’t want to do anything to fuck up my good thing. Usually I only rode out with Rome when Larisa wasn’t going to be with him, which wasn’t often, but it was going to be hard to avoid her today. They were doing a clothing and food drive for the homeless people and shelters in Downtown Memphis. Both had mentioned it to me two weeks ago, so I’d been taking donations from family and friends as well as those at the department.
My plan was to just drop the things off to one of them and spend my day chilling, but when they realized how much money I’d given they asked me to come through. Larisa said she was okay with it, but I’d already made up in my mind that I wouldn’t stay long just to be safe. This was the version of their crew I wished more of the officers at the precinct would see. It filled my heart with so much fucking pride to see damn near thirty customized racing cars filled with clothes, first aid kits and necessity bags, food, and gift cards riding through the hoods of Memphis.
They went to the shelters Downtown last, then rode up and down a few streets where homeless people were known to hang.
By the time we were done, everyone headed to one of their hangout spots for something to eat and drink. That’s when I was going to take my leave, but Larisa asked me to stay. It was one thing for me to be a part of their lineup because I wasn’t in her personal space but going to a bar with them was something of a different level. Still, if she didn’t mind, I would be cool with it.
The place they chose was fairly empty, and I found out it was because one of the members owned it, so he would usually shut the place down a few hours early when they had their meetups. By the time everyone was inside, the place was almost packed. The liquor and weed started flowing almost instantly, which turned into jokes because PS as they called me was there. I told them it was cool because I wasn’t on duty. Shit, I drunk and lit up my damn self.
Larisa was acting friendlier with me than I expected her to. At our table, it was me, her, Rome, Paris, Rochelle, and some nigga who’d been mugging me every time I came around. I don’t think he liked me, but he stuck close just to make sure I wasn’t on no funny shit.
