CHAPTER 12

RAVEN

Tyler was married. Good for him. We could throw his ass a parade later. Right now, I had better things to do than think about his ready-made family.

I parked across the street from my destination and jumped out the car. My black clothing blended perfectly with the darkness surrounding me. I put my phone on vibrate and prayed that Pierre would believe that I was having drinks with Sparrow. I hated lying to my husband, but I knew he wouldn’t approve of what I was getting ready to do.

I walked up the small house and picked the lock on the front door before opening it. I waited forty-five seconds to see if an alarm would go off. Nothing sounded, so I proceeded inside. Adrenaline flowed through my veins at a high speed. My heart pounded in my chest and I felt jumpy. The darkness partially blinded me, but it seemed as if every sound was amplified. This feeling was addicting.

I quietly made my way further into the house, checking behind every corner for my prey. I had to take a break after the first couple of rooms, sweat dampening my shirt. I knew it was fall but damn, it was hotter than the devil’s toenail in this place. What setting was the heat on? Hell? Soft sounds floated to my airs from upstairs. I swore under my breath before tiptoeing up the stairs, praying that none of them creaked under my weight.

I placed my hand on the knob of the last door on the left and made sure my pistol was secure in the waistband of my jeans. I swung open the door and a camera flash greeted me. Caught off guard, I stumbled into the space.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk, I thought you’d have a little more finesse than that, Raven.”

I blinked away the spots before my eyes while turning towards the direction the voice was coming from. “H-how did you know it was me?”

“I saw you run across the street from your car. You should really try to be more inconspicuous.”

Well damn, I thought. Taking a deep breath, I tried to calm my pounding heart. “Look Anita, I came to talk to you about your issue with Robin.”

She snorted and lifted a glass to her lips. She was curled up in a chair by the window, half her body covered in darkness. “Talk? Girl please. You don’t break in to someone’s home in the middle of the night to talk with them. Try again.”

If it weren’t so dark, she would have been able to see the blush that was creeping up my neck. “I’m asking you nicely to drop whatever plan you have, and crawl back under the rock you came from. You don’t want these problems, okay?”

Anita laughed at me long and hard. “Girl, get the hell out of my house with that shit.” I was taken aback by her language. Anita rarely cursed. “I’m not afraid of any of you Birds. Especially since Blue is still MIA. Keep fucking with me and mines, and you’ll be sitting next to Sparrow in a jail cell.
