Lillian Rose of Ternova

“Your father wants to see you”. Those dreaded words are the last thing I want to hear just as I awaken. “Tell him I do not want to see him”.

“If you do not go to him…”. “He will send Hiram for me, yes I know”, I seethe, blinking back until my eyes settle on Melrose, I shift up and rub my eyes suddenly. “You have blue eyes?”.

“I have always had blue eyes Maximus”, she retorts dryly. “I am sure they were green”. “Shall I send the servants in to dress you?”, she asks. “Yes”, I still confused by her sudden change in appearance as they scurry in. The little flower isn’t with them today, I was hoping she would be, I haven’t seen her since we laid down together. Instead she has been replaced by a stout male with tufts of red hair. He smiles at my shyly and I scowl in response, as he shifts uncomfortably dropping his eyes to the floor. I find Melrose, who’s standing at the foot of my door.

“I don’t want him”. “I’m not blind Maximus. I’ve put her on kitchen duty and you would be wise to stay away from her unless you want your father to know”. I instantly grimace, the last thing I need is for my father breathing down my neck about having relations with the servants.

I dress quickly and walk to my father’s chambers, for once I don’t have a shadow lagging behind me. I told Sun I wanted to go and see my father alone and she agreed. She hasn’t spoken a word since she woke up, in fact she’s not spoken since I stitched her up yesterday. It is not that I think she was incapable to do it herself, more that I felt like I owed her. I let her down in that tavern in Erendreal, leaving her to fight all of those men on her own.

I didn’t find my father as I made my way into his chambers instead, I saw Malachi, my fathers chief informant waiting for me. He’s writing something on a piece of parchment, his hand pauses as he dips his feather in ink. “Where is my father?”. “He had some duty to attend to outside of the palace, he informed me to tell you that a carriage will be waiting to take you in the next hour”.

“A carriage to where?”. “Ternova”. Heat rises in my skin, there is only one reason he would send me there and that would be to make do’s with Lillian Rose. She’s the strongest candidate I have for a potential wife and joining our two Kingdoms would be a significant power move for Meridian. “I’m not going. I’m training the knights today”.

“I put Cornelius on it. The King thought having a day outside the palace would be good for you”. I growl under my breath. “He should have spoken with me first”.

“He knows you are fond of Lillian Rose, the King Johnson’s daughter, he thought it would come as a nice surprise”.
