Chapter 10
One Month Later…
After dropping Boy off, Ace drove through the streets of Hampton roads reminiscing about the good ol’ days, the days when he didn’t have a care in the world...the days when everything made sense. The days the only thing he had to worry about was what to wear, the days when he and his niggas had shit on lock and the streets in a mean choke hole with no plans of letting go. The days where niggas had to think twice about coming at him any other way than correct, the days where niggas respected the streets and the G-code, all of that was gone and never coming back. He was done with the streets and had been for years.
The month he’d spent in jail had given him the time he needed to think and clear his head. The only thing he was stressed out about was his daughters and Aaliyah, but he knew his niggas wouldn’t let anything happen to them while he was locked away. What kept him calm was speaking to them on the phone when he was allowed to. When the CO’s allowed him to use the phone, he would call all throughout the day because he didn’t know when he would be able to use the phone again.
Sunshine had even crossed his mind a few times. He still couldn’t get over that fact that she was the one who placed him in the situation he was in. The fact that someone he thought he was close to pulled the wool over his eyes still messed with him the most.
Ace couldn’t believe how selfish and ungrateful Sunshine had been. He couldn’t believe she had been another snake slithering in the grass. Ace found himself on the verge of shedding tears a few times, but refused to cry over spilled milk. The dirt had already been done, and there wasn’t anything he could do about it.
Boy had informed him of all the havoc Aaliyah had caused in the city over that last few weeks. He smiled on the inside, but didn’t show any emotion on the outside. That wasn’t her job to be in the streets, Ace didn’t care who her father was or who had trained her.
Ace was on his way to holla at Jay and Boog because there still wasn’t any word on J’vion, and that’s what worried him the most. Ace picked up his phone to dial Jay but before he could, red and blue flashing lights stopped him.
Ace put his phone down and pulled over. What the fuck? I don’t have time for this bullshit, he thought as he put the car in park and waited until the officer got out of his car.
Ace looked in the rear-view mirror before checking his watch. He wanted to know what the hell was taking the officer so long to get out of his car. The officer finally stepped out his car with his hand on his gun. By this time, two more patrol cars were pulling up along with an all-black Lincoln Navigator.
