Chapter 4

SHIFTING in bed, throwing off the covers, Melanie blew strands of hair off her face. For at least the tenth time since falling into bed she rolled onto her side to check her alarm clock. Twelve-thirteen a.m. flashed at her in bright green.

Dang it, Hayden. Her heartbeat threaded too fast, but at the same time, she softly snarled. Where are you? He’d said he would be home tonight. Although, technically, now that midnight had rolled over on the clock, he’d said last night.

Drew and Griffin had gone out for the evening, but Melanie and Charlie had stayed home. Without saying a word, both of them knew they were waiting for Hayden to return. Around eleven-thirty, they’d both gone to bed, but Melanie doubted Charlie was getting any more sleep than she was. They wanted Hayden back, and neither would breathe entirely easy until they saw him, big and strong and well and alive, within these walls, with their own two eyes. And in Melanie’s mind, not until they dragged him to bed and showed him how very much he was cared for and wanted.

As had happened dozens of times in the last four days, Melanie’s thoughts drifted back to Hayden’s phone call—the only contact he’d made since leaving town. Desperation had lived in his tone, and her heart had ached with each word. Every fiber of her being had come alive and commanded her to pull him into her arms and hold him, but all she’d been able to do was grab Charlie’s hand and squeeze with all her might. Charlie had done the same, concern and love filling the clutch of his fingers too.

In between worrying about Hayden, Melanie replayed that brief burst of passion between the three of them in the den, wondering how it might have progressed had they not broken apart and gone to their separate rooms to save their pride. The three of them tangled in bed together…Oh God, so amazing.

Where she lay, Melanie whimpered and squeezed her thighs together, a pulse in her pussy already awakening her to the pleasures she knew existed in the arms of these two men. Hayden in front and Charlie behind her, both claiming her at the same time, was a fantasy that flooded Melanie’s channel with slick need. She rocked against the bed restlessly, certain she could feel the hardness of Hayden’s chest pushing against her breasts, with Charlie’s sleek strength pressing into her from behind, the heat of both their bodies crushed against her, making her erupt in flames.

Slipping her hand between her legs, Melanie started to rub her middle finger down her crease, when the soft sound of the massive deadbolt on the front door slid open, swish-thunk, through the silent house. Melanie went still in her bed.

He’s home. In her gut, she knew that wasn’t Drew and Griffin returning to the house. It’s Hayden.

Quickly, the soft thump of a bag likely dropping to the floor sounded, along with the door clicking shut and being locked once more.
