Chapter Sixteen

She was back in the dream maze. This time, she knew her way to the center and to the man who claimed to know all about her powers. Yet, he didn’t tell her much about them the last time. Was this her subconscious wanting to know and made him up?

When she reached the open field, he wasn’t there. Figures. She was losing her mind.

“You’re not losing your mind.” The deep, sultry voice came from behind her and she whirled around and met the gaze of the man who was here in her last dream.

His long white hair was braided down his back and his black eyes studied her with interest. Frowning, she crossed her arms and glared at him. “You can read my mind?”

He gave a lazy shrug and walked toward her. “Only here, in the dream world. It is where I can connect to you easily.”

Easily? Did that mean he was real? “Who are you?”

Pausing mid-step, he locked gazes with her. “I’m here to help you. You can call me Osad.”

“Osad? That isn’t your real name. Why not tell me who you really are?” She started to think of a way to get out of this dream world or wherever the hell she was. The man in front of her had secrets and she didn’t trust people who hid their identity.

“Like you, I don’t give trust freely. Yes, it was I who called you here in your sleep, but that doesn’t mean I trust you any more than you do me.” Osad stopped a few feet in front of her. “I am here to help you understand and control your powers.”

Blake narrowed her gaze, but the spark of hope lit up inside her. “And you know what powers I have?”

His dark eyes glowed from within for a brief moment. “I do. You have the gift of life. You can give it or take it away. That is where your healing magic comes from. You have the ability to connect to the world around you—plants and animals that rely on the earth element.”

That wasn’t news to her. She’d already discovered and figured out most of what he said. The earth elemental magic made sense and told her that was how she could calm the leosier. “Do you know why I have these abilities?”

He gave a single nod, but didn’t offer the information. Instead, he said, “You have the power to heal your wolf. Just focus on healing his wounds.”

He made it sound so easy. Was it that simple?

“I must go now. Use your wolves’ technology to research the Daeria gods. You will know the truth when you are ready.” Osad turned to walk away. After several feet, he glanced at her over his shoulder and added, “I’ll see you soon.”

She jerked awake and lay next to Mace for a few seconds. When the haze of sleep lifted, she sat up and peered down at her wolf. He was sleeping but his breathing was still a little labored, as if he were in pain.
