How could this be happening?

What is the point of this?

Who would want to hurt me?

Taryn paced the halls, her mind a mess. Declan was going to keep her safe, but that didn't mean the threat didn't scare her.

She was, in fact, terrified.

But I can never tell Declan how afraid I truly am. Because then his overprotectiveness will get out of control.

She was going to try to stand strong, but the thought of being targeted made her stomach twist painfully with anxiety.

What if he isn’t here to protect me?

She gasped as the air was twisted out of her. Her anxiety threatened to overwhelm her as she thought about Declan not being around to save her.

She stopped in the library to find it empty of her sisters and Hanna. She stiffened when a guard gave her a smile. "They moved everything to the theater room. They said something about wine and a movie."

Her shoulders relaxed, and she gave the guard a smile before she turned and headed back down the hallway. She went straight to the theater. When she arrived there, she found that only Hanna and Addison were sitting in large chairs, laughing together. She felt comfort between them and liked that they were getting along so well.

Hanna looked at her, giving her a soft smile. "So? Was my brother spying on you? Did you beat his ass and chew him out?"

She shook her head, walking over to them. She threw herself into a chair and pulled the pillow into her lap. She swallowed as she tried to figure out how she was going to tell them someone was after her. That someone was stalking her.

How could one possibly break that kind of news?

Just rip the bandage off.

Addison frowned at her, seeing the look on her face. "What's wrong?"

She looked between the girls before she sighed. "Declan wasn't the person who put the tracker in my purse. I asked him about it, and he told me he didn't do it."

Saying it out loud sent a shiver down her spine. She didn't like any of what was going on.

Hanna looked at her, confused. "What do you mean?"

"It means …" She licked her lips, taking a deep breath. She just needed to get the words out. "It means someone else did. Declan said that he found notes threatening me. I have a stalker. And the same person burned the vinery. Declan was trying to keep me safe by not telling me."

They both looked at her with wide eyes, so she continued. “Someone is trying to get to me, and he's trying to figure out who it is, but he doesn't have any leads."

Hanna shook her head, pouring herself a glass of wine. "You know this doesn't surprise me."

"What do you mean?" she asked.

Hanna scowled. "He is a leader and a protector. I know why he didn’t tell you, although I do not agree with that. I have sensed that he has been more stressed out lately. He’d want to handle it on his own.
