Chapter 19

~ Forest ~

August had to come to get me for the meeting because I had been lost in my conversation with Juniper and was now running late. I assumed that Oakley was there filling the time with whatever bullshit pack business he could come up with. I was surprised when Juniper said she would join me. It was just another thing she did that showed me how great she will be as Luna. She didn’t shy away from uncomfortable situations, but rather faced them head on. I had to admit, I would have preferred to keep us locked up in the apartment for the next week, getting to know each other in all sorts of ways, but after last night, word had spread around about her and the involvement of witches and I needed to put the pack’s fears and questions to rest.

I still wasn’t sure what I would say about her origins. Was she even alright having others know about her being a witch? I figured it would both help her and hurt her in the initial acceptance. While I expected most of the pack to accept her regardless, I knew there would be a few who were upset that she is not a wolf. Maybe if I could reason with them that she holds some of the Moon Goddess’s power, it would soften the blow.

“Hey, I need to ask what you are comfortable sharing with the pack?”

“You mean, can they know I’m a witch?”

“Yeah, is it alright or should we keep it to ourselves?”

“If I’m going to be living here, they are bound to figure it out. While we do not discuss it with humans, I assume that I can share it with your pack. You all are in a similar situation after all.”

“Fair enough. When we get there, I will address the pack. There is no need to talk unless you want to.”

We entered through the back door of the community hall. It was where we hosted any pack wide events such as meetings or celebrations. It was a substantially sized squared building with a decorative facade that included a grand arch and large windows. We walked down the dimly lit back hallway and to the side of the theater style stage. It was a bit reminiscent of a community theater or human high school, but we found it fit the needs required from it well. We stood to the side of the stage, hidden behind a heavy black velvet curtain. I could just make out the rows of folding chairs that had been set up and were filled with the familiar faces of our community. When Oakley spotted me, he ended his speech and introduced me.

“I will go out and talk to them first before calling you out.”

“O-okay” she stuttered.

I could tell this situation spiked some nerves for her. I’m sure it would have been easier for her to walk out with me as support, but I wanted to get a read on the crowd before I fully exposed her.
