Image size

This one is a bit trickier and depends on the kind of application you have. For instance, a blog may need more images than a utility application. None-the-less, images are one of the largest assets your web app can load. No matter how much you optimize them, they have an outsized impact on your app’s performance.

I would aim for under 2Mb of image assets on load, and look into lazy loading techniques to go out and grab more imagery as needed after the initial rendering has been completed.
