Reflection

The prophet in us is not an agitator, an anarchist, a traitor. The prophet calls us to the best of what we say we are. The prophet confronts us with the deep-down great goodness of our common call to holiness, to love of neighbor, to commitment to the life of the whole world. The prophet does not seek conflict and violence and disorder. And when these come, they come down on the prophet’s own head. But what greater image is there, as Jesus says, as those “who lay down their lives for their friends.”
