“Goodbye, everyone!” Tyler cried. “It was nice knowing you!”

The monster took a step forward, showing his ugly green face. Two angry eyes stared out at us above a flat, snotty nose and a huge mouth.

“Do you believe my story about the green hand now?” I whispered.

The monster lurched toward us, took one of the jars, and stopped to listen. Tyler’s knees were shaking uncontrollably. As usual, Michael was the one who found a solution. He picked up a pebble and threw it across the cave. It pinged against one of the little tubs farthest away from us.

Hearing the noise, the monster turned around and growled in rage. When he didn’t see anything, he calmed down. He started moving around the cave, feeding the fish. He tickled them with his big green fingers, and when they came up to eat, he giggled happily, singing, “Din-din! Din-din!”

“What a sweet guy!” Becca said with a sigh. Seeing someone taking care of animals always made her happy.

“Yeah, right,” Tyler muttered. “So sweet he could eat us in one bite!” As he talked, Tyler forgot to be careful. He accidentally moved his leg, hitting a stack of jars that was behind him. They all crashed to the ground.

Now we were done for.
