Other areas of overlap on UK plans include those for Sunderland and Newcastle, Bradford and Halifax, Huddersfield and Dewsbury, Manchester and Warrington, Wigan and St. Helens, Portsmouth and Havant, London and Thurrock. In addition to these overlaps, Liverpool abuts St. Helens, and Halifax abuts Huddersfield.

Similar contradictions occur with the 1:50,000 topographic maps, whose compilers seem not to have had access to existing larger-scale city plans. This can be seen across the southern part of England, where a new Soviet 1:50,000 series was produced in 1981, covering many towns for which city plans had been produced in the preceding ten or so years. Figures 3.74 and 3.75 show a typical example, in part of Paignton, Devon, where the later small-scale map omits a housing development (lower left) that had already appeared on the earlier (1976) large-scale Torbay plan.
