5.2.3 Similar Appearance Characteristic

Similar natural tourism resources often appear in places wide apart. For example, limestone caves are widely distributed in China, Yugoslavia, Switzerland, France, Czech and many other countries, and the same is true of volcanoes, waterfalls, canyons, beaches and hot springs.

Similar appearance of cultural tourism resources is more common. For example, Kwan Tai Temple, Dragon King Temple, Confucius Temple, Buddhist and Taoist temples can be found all over China; Great Buddha’s Hall, Eighteen Disciples of the Buddha and Four Heavenly Guardians can be found almost everywhere. This is even more true of Catholic Churches in Western countries.

Similar appearance of tourism resources enables tourists with limited money and time to visit the nearest similar scenes. However, it also causes problems to the development of tourism. For instance, if foreign tourists in China see Eighteen Disciples of the Buddha in Beijing, Suzhou and Hangzhou, they may be fed up with seeing temples during the day and sleeping at night. For another example, when visiting royal memorial parks, tourists are generally in high spirits when touring the first mausoleum, but they may find that the second one is much the same as the first and will not see the third at all. Obviously, it would be better not to revisit similar scenic spots and it is necessary to step up advertising respective features in order to arouse new desires of tourists.
