A friend always,
Asaria.”
May 13, 2012
“Dear Asaria,
I would have written to you sooner but your letter was accidentally delivered to my neighbor’s house by mistake. I was starting to worry about you, until the neighbor brought your letter (along with some other mail) to us. I did receive Ms. Raychel’s Mother’s Day gift in time enough to frame it. You just take care of the drawing side of our business and I will handle the rest as far as the frames and glass are concerned. I mailed a hundred-fifty dollars in a money order to your mother for the first five orders along with another hundred dollars from me to help with your defense fund. I know it’s not much, but I’m also saving for a car.
Ms. Raychel loved the drawing you did for her so much she took it to work with her and was able to get you eight more customers. She told them all to have the pictures they would like to have drawn to her by Friday and as soon as she gives them to me, I’ll mail them to you. Let me know if you start to feel overwhelmed. I know it takes you some time to complete one of them as much detail as she you put into your artwork.
Asaria, I’m sorry that you’re being held responsible for something you had no control over. Now I understand your resentment towards your public defender. There has to be someone you can talk to about him isn’t there? I say that’s all the more reason for you to continue on with your fight for freedom. One thing that I am unclear about is what part your boyfriend played in your getting railroaded, if any. Where does he fit in the scheme of things? I ask that question because I still get the feeling that you are still protecting him in some way. Remember Asaria, it’s the truth that is going to ultimately set you free. I know the code of the streets is to not tell on anyone but this is the one time that you have to push everyone else to the side and help yourself. Especially, if there is more to the story than you’re telling. You don’t have to necessarily tell it to me, but you have to tell someone.
I have midterms coming up next week as well as a lot of studying to do, but I will be sure to respond to your letters at once and I hope to have some more customers for you by the time I write to you again. Asaria, please think about what I have suggested you do. You are far too gifted to be sitting behind bars. I believe in you and now it’s time for you to believe in yourself and know that you are worthy to have a good life. I’m sure your father would want it that way.
You are my friend and friends look out for one another. Honestly, you’re turning out to be the sister I never had.
