“Dear Buck,

I hope you don’t think I’m some fast tail girl. My offer to give you a helping hand came from my heart with no kind of expectations. When I was in church the Sunday before I wrote you my last letter, the pastor preached about extending the olive branch and for some reason even though every pew in the church was filled, I felt as though he was preaching directly to me. And from that sermon I felt you were the perfect candidate, so I want you to know I don’t go around opening my home to men. Buck, I’m not a loose woman.

I’m happy you enjoy my letters Buck. I have to confess I enjoy writing them to you. However, you must be confused about what I may have written in one of my previous letters. My accident happened many years ago I told you I was in my twenties remember? A woman doesn’t like to tell her age you know, but that was 40 plus years ago, so honey if I haven’t healed by now, I never will. You’re going to have to come up with a better excuse than that Buck. I said I wasn’t gonna talk anymore about your plan, but since you continue to bring it up, do you think that your momma would approve of your plan? Don’t you think you momma would want the best for you? I think she would, in fact, I know she would just by the way you described how hard she worked to provide for you and your siblings. I’m just saying I wish you would change your mind.

I stayed with my grandmother a lot growing up, in fact, I was named after her. Everybody called my grandma Momma Lu. You teased me about possibly being a lawyer, and I have to say my skills came from watching Perry Mason with Momma Lu, and when Perry Mason was on you could hear a pin drop. Momma Lu watched a lot of TV, but she sure did love Perry Mason. I remember laughing at her because she’d be talking to the TV as if the TV was going to talk back. Nowadays I find myself doing the same thing. Buck I remember the good times I spent at Momma Lu’s house and I sure do miss her. Momma Lu taught me how to cook and everything. I never mastered her baking skills, because with her everything was always from scratch. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it. Every Sunday morning Momma Lu made homemade rolls, home fries, and hot fish. Those sure were the days. Now everything is microwavable.

Buck I can feel how much you really miss Avionce every time you speak of him in your letters. Do you want me to reach out to him on your behalf? I really don’t mind. Maybe he can talk you out of your plan. Now I’m about to call you on something. You said you
