Chapter Fifteen

Kathryn

She lay on top of the bed and stared up at the ceiling, watching the blades on the small white fan turn slowly. The room was warm and the fan did little to cool it down. Kathryn knew that she needed to leave soon to visit Lucas, but she wasn’t really in the mood to leave the comfort of the bed. She was still trying to process everything from her afternoon. Some of it made perfect sense, while other bits and pieces made her feel like she was completely mad.

Armel was nothing like she thought he would be. He wasn’t a ghost, not by a long shot. He was more real than most of the people she knew. He was gentle and selfless, and she ached for him knowing that he was stuck here, trapped between two worlds. One world had outgrown him. It had developed and changed, and he was no longer a part of it. The other world waited, where he should be with his family. It was unfair that an act of kindness would go punished for this many years.

She wracked her brain trying to think of any possible way that she could help him. Maybe she needed to meet that angel friend of his. She couldn’t help but question who she had become. She was now talking to spirits and demanding to talk to an angel. Kathryn chuckled softly, and forced herself off the bed. Nothing made sense anymore. She hoped Lucas liked wine or maybe something stronger, because right now she needed to numb her brain.
