Chapter Nineteen

People kept talking but I didn’t really hear what they were saying. I sat motionless, stunned. Did they really believe the aliens were coming to conquer us?

Nibiru. I’d heard it somewhere before, but I couldn’t remember where. It was an itch in my brain I couldn’t scratch.

The thump of shoes clomping on stairs snapped me out of the moment.

I turned toward the sound. Miranda stood at the bottom of the steps. Her eyes landed on me. “Edwin’s ready to go,” she said. “Simon, are you ready?”

Miranda’s father shifted in his seat again. “Oh,” he said, looking at me. “Already? We’ve got a lot more to discuss. Lots of stuff you need to know, Simon.”

I looked quickly to Miranda and then back to her dad. “Yeah,” I said. “I should leave when my brother does.”

The group of UFO believers all smiled and nodded.

I blushed, but I’m not sure anyone saw it, because of my skin color.

“Ready, Simon?” Miranda asked.

“Yeah,” I said, getting up. My legs felt like rubber.

“Great to meet you, Simon,” Jerry said.

“Let us know if you remember anything else,” Miranda’s dad added.

I gave a quick nod to the others and followed Miranda up the stairs.
